In the debate over evolution, Korean scientists aren't taking their chances. The Society for Textbook Revise (STR) has been fighting to get the Archaeopteryx and horses removed from textbooks, saying they are typical icons of evolutionism.
Confucian traditions with their emphasis on worldly success and high valuation of education, still dominate the country's culture. But Korea is looking for the new model of development.
Origins
The development of Iron Age culture brought more sophisticated states like Goguryeo Baekje and Silla to the Korean peninsula. They all developed a distinct culture which blended with the influence of their powerful neighbors and they also adopted various aspects of Chinese culture, particularly Confucianism and Buddhism however shamanism continued to be practised too.
Goguryeo was the first of these kingdoms to establish its own system of government on the Korean people. It instituted a king-centered system of government in the 2nd century.
